Modifying the knee wall to enlarge the opening for a custom made roll out hide away bed.. To maximize the space upstairs I decided to build a custom in wall pull out hide a bed. The original knee wall opening had to be enlarged with the removal of old existing vertical studs To properly support the roof a new horizontal beam was constructed to span the top of the opening and to distribute the load onto the ceiling joints in the floor. A new horizontal beam was also installed.
The roll out sled for the bed uses four 125 pound each non swivel casters total weight it can support is 500 pounds) and then a middle beam and an end beam contain horizontally mounted casters to act as guides onto rails secured to the floor. With these guides it will make it go back into the wall and keep it from racking and going in crooked.
For added support the front wheels on the slide out bed assembly ride on the top center of the existing ceiling joists below the hardwood floor.
